Nazi Era & Cold War

In Berlin you can discover some of the historic places which document one of the darkest chapters of the German history. Follow the traces from the imperial capital under the fylfot to the divided city during the Cold War.

Programme

Day 1
Today you arrive in Berlin.  You will be picked up and start your stay with a 3 hour city tour. This tour will take you all the way through Berlin's eastern city centre from the Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate.
During a stopover in Berlin Mitte, a walking tour gives you the opportunity to comprehend the history of the National Socialism at its original settings. The tour starts at the Prinz-Albrecht-Area. Here the long-term exhibition "Topography of Terror" informs about the history of this place and the National Socialism observation centre which was located there. The tour leads you to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. The Field of Stelae in the centre of Berlin is Germany's central Holocaust memorial site, a place for remembrance and commemoration of six million victims. Furthermore the tour goes to the Brandenburg Gate and ends at the Reichstag building. Afterwards our bus takes you back to your hotel where dinner is served.

Day 2
After breakfast the bus awaits you for a 5 hour excursion to the former Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. This was the biggest concentration camp in the German area. A guided tour across the area provides you with more detailed information. In the extant buildings you will find different long-term exhibitions such as "Jewish Prisoners in Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp", "The 'Everyday Life' of Prisoners in Sachsenhausen" or "Medical Care and Crime in the Concentration Camp".
As a great way to spend your last night in the capital, we recommend a visit of one of the numerous theatres, cabarets etc. If you speak German you could for example visit the Grips Youth theatre, with a very interesting choice of plays related to life in Berlin like "Linie 1".

Day 3
Right after breakfast you will check out of the hotel and our bus takes you to the city centre. A guided visit of the wall museum gives you an understanding of the history of Berlin during the Cold War. At the famous border crossing "Checkpoint Charlie" you find the Wall Museum with an exhibition of the history of the Berlin Wall from the construction in 1961 up to the opening in 1989. After discovering this sight, you can spend some time at Checkpoint Charlie and have a little snack before the bus brings you to the airport / train station.
